"From Port to Prairie": Bringing Curriculum to Life Through Place-Conscious Pedagogy

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Place conscious pedagogy is an approach to teaching and learning that embeds the school curriculum in the local community and environment. It is inherently cross-curricular in striving to diminish boundaries between schools and their social and environmental settings. Through hands-on experiences of place, students and teachers find meaningful and engaging opportunities to explore, apply and advance their curricular knowledge. This presentation will share creative case studies from teachers in Alberta and Newfoundland that have used the local environment and community as a way to engage students with curriculum, and discuss how this impacts student agency.
