In 2014, Altario School was at an all-time low in enrollment, the local community was shrinking, and the survivability of both school and community were in question. Using the school as a driver of rejuvenation, the school community came together to dream of what a revived community could look like. In particular, embracing the agriculture heritage of the area was seen as the central piece to grow both the school and community.

Today, Altario boasts an agriculture program that includes the raising of steers, turkeys, chickens, and sheep. It has a community garden, a test crop plot, and provides a residency program for students from other schools. The profits of the farm are used for student'scholarships and program growth. Through this program, Altario School has been revived and the community has been saved. The school has a growing enrollment and the hamlet of Altario has doubled its population.

While sharing the story of Altario School, this session offers insight into the steps of reviving a school, and saving a community.
